When I started running in 2015 I had zero clue about fueling...and let me tell you, I learnt the hard way.
I had so many runs were I felt sick, or my legs were led, or I had zero energy, or I had a belly full of sloshing liquid.
It doesn't need be be that way.
However, it can be overwhelming. There is a lot of info online because fueling is unique to you, it's not a one size fits all.
