RACE RECAP AND BEING A RACE PACER AT THE GOODLIFE VICTORIA MARATHON (8K TURKEY TROT – 55 MINUTE PACER)

If you follow me on social media, you may already know that on Sunday 13th October 2019 I was a pacer for the 8k Turkey Trot race in Victoria, British Columbia.

Being a pacer is something I have wanted to do for a couple of years now, but never thought I would be able to; it was purely down to a lack of confidence in myself, I just didn’t feel like a good enough runner to be a pacer. What rubbish! If you are able to run a pace consistently that allows you to easily talk throughout the race if necessary, then you can be a race pacer!

AHH Lululemon SEAWHEEZE, HOW I LOVE YOU SO…

Seawheeze 2019 is just around the corner, how did that come round so fast! It doesn’t even feel like a year ago that I raced….and then got terribly injured! I was reminiscing about the race the other night while I was on a client consultation call, and it inspired me to write up a blog with all my tips and highlights from the expo and race. Now it’s likely that the race format will be slightly different from my 2018 experience, but it might give you a taste of what’s to come!

COACH G (RUNNING COACH IN TRAINING)

If you follow me on Instagram, you may know that I am training to become a running coach. If you had asked me 4 years ago if I would ever see myself being a runner, let alone a running coach, I would have falling off my seat laughing. Nope, back then it was certainly not something I ever saw myself doing, yet here I am – funny how life changes.

In 2017, I found an online marathon coaching certificate that I really wanted to do. At that time I was thinking more for my own knowledge rather than being a coach, but after being a clinic instructor at the Running Room, I found something that combines two of my favourite things – running and telling people what to do.  It wasn’t until 2018 that I signed up and got cracking on the workload (and let me tell you, this course is full on comprehensive, with an exam, case study, first aid course, and coaching a volunteer client!).

RACE-CATION EXPERIENCE AT THE WALT DISNEY WORLD MARATHON

My first race-cation experience was this January at the Walt Disney World Marathon in Florida.  Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved the race (see my previous blog post), but I’m not a fan of race-cations (yet!). Here are my positives and negatives to race-cations (yes I have only done one, but these are my thoughts on that one…..I need to do a few more before I can make a more rounded decision) – I would love to hear if you have anything extra to add to the list.
