I only discovered the wonders of Epsom salts a few years ago – and now a week doesn’t go by when I’m not chilling in the tub to help relax my muscles and loosen stiff joints. But not only does it help after a strenuous workout, it can help to draw toxins out of the body, improves the immune system, and relaxes the nervous system.
You can use it as is, putting the Epsom salt straight into the running water, or you can add in a few extra ingredients to enhance the experience.
In a bowl add 1 cup of Epsom salts, 1/4 cup of baking soda, and approximately 20 drops of your favourite essential oil*. My favourite is lavender as it’s soothing and relaxing, perfect as part of my bedtime routine; but you can add pretty much whatever essential oil you wish to use (just be cautions not to use one that could irritate your skin).
Give it a good mix and decant into an airtight jar.
When it comes to your bath time, put on a candle or 2, have your favourite book on hand, some relaxing music, and add a scoop of these delicious bath salts to running water.
Lie back and enjoy!
*Two points to note here:
- Make sure that you use skin-friendly essential oils.
- If you have sensitive skin like I do, make a small batch to try out to make sure it doesn’t irritate your skin.
