When you can’t be bothered running and you’d rather stay in and watch Netflix, or meet your friends for a drink, perhaps have a bath with a glass of wine, or an extra hour in bed; we’ve all been there. But what do you do? Do you give into temptation and not run, or do you force yourself out the door?
Ask yourself these questions:
1) Am I injured?
Yes = don’t run
No = run
2) Am I physically, mentally and/or emotionally exhausted?
Yes = don’t run
No = run
3) Do I feel nauseous, have a migraine, flu, feel dizzy, or have a nasty cough?
Yes = don’t run
No = run
4) Are the weather conditions outside too bad to run in i.e. forest fire smoke, heavy snow, lightening?
Yes = don’t run outside, go to a gym or consider doing an online hiit (high intensity interval training) or yoga session at home instead
No = run
5) Are you just not feeling it?
Yes = get your gear on and go out for 5-10 minutes, after this time, if you are still not feeling it, then call it a day and try again tomorrow
No = get your gear on and go out for 5-10 minutes, after this time, if you are still not feeling it, then call it a day and try again tomorrow
These questions are to be used as a guide, sometimes our bodies really need a break, in which case we need to be kind to ourselves, and at other times our mind tricks us into not wanting to workout. It’s all down to listening to your body and getting your butt out the door when you can.
