I used to own SO many cookbooks but I never used any of them; the recipes were complicated or used ingredients/equipment that I didn’t have. So when I moved from Scotland to Canada in 2014, I ditched them all. Since then my eating habits have changed – I now understand ingredients and how I can substitute items to suit my dietary needs, and I have become more confident in the kitchen. I’m now pretty picky with the cookbooks I buy. I look for recipes that use real ingredients – predominately plant based and gluten free (or can easily be modified). Also, and most importantly, I look for authors who I believe practice what they preach, by that I mean they aren’t a ‘celebrity’ that has released a book just to make some money.
Here are my current absolute favourites (note that they aren’t all specifically gluten free and vegan/plant based but the recipes can easily be modified) that I use weekly:
The oh she glows cookbook by Angela Liddon
Oh she glows every day by Angela Liddon
UnDiet by Meghan Telpner
The UnDiet Cookbook by Megan Telpner
Joyous Health by Joy McCarthy
The Plantpower Way by Rich Roll and Julie Piatt
I am always on the look-out for new recipes, so if your favourite cookbook doesn’t feature here, please let me know in the comments below so I can check it out. Thanks!
