We all know we need water to survive, and it’s recommended everyone drinks 2 litres/8 glasses of water a day. But it can be hard right? Life can be busy and we simply forget to drink regularly, or we have too much on to be rushing to the bathroom every 30 mins. What I say is do your best and be mindful of what you are drinking.
Here are my 7 tips to help keep you hydrated:
-Have a glass of water by your bed so when you wake up in the morning you can drink it straight away, helping your body replace any fluids that were lost overnight.
-If you use a water bottle or glass at work or home, put rubber bands or hair bands at the bottom of the bottle/glass and every time you drink the whole bottle/glass, move a band to the top of the vessel. This way you can keep track of how much, or little, you’ve consumed.
-Coffee, tea and soda are a diuretic due to the caffeine (and sugar for the soda), which means they dehydrate you even though you are drinking. If you don’t want to give up your morning coffee or afternoon soda, just be mindful of your consumption of these drinks; try to include glasses of water in addition to these.
-If plain water bores you, try adding in fresh fruit to diffuse the water with a lovely sweet flavour. My personal favourites are blueberries, raspberries, or a slice of lemon.
–Caffeine-free herbal teas are another great option. Not only do these help with water consumption, but many have additional health benefits too.
–Set a reminder in your phone or in your work schedule to take a drink of water every 20 minutes.
-There are apps available that can keep track of your water consumption, do a search in your app store to find one that works for you.
I hope these tips help you increase your consumption of water.
